Keeping your home or office clean isn’t the easiest of tasks, especially if you have a full schedule.
Since you’re pressed for time, you want to be thorough when cleaning. You don’t want to leave any dust or dirt behind. One of the best cleaning materials that you can use is microfiber towels. The best cleaning service companies swear by its effectiveness.
Microfiber cloths are often made of nylon and polyester. These two components create fibers that are finer than a human hair. Microfiber towels have more fibers than sponges and other cleaning cloths. This helps the fabric trap more dust and dirt particles. It also makes it more absorbent.
Microfiber is a powerhouse when it comes to cleaning. It’s why professional cleaners use them in a variety of ways. They also know how to clean microfiber towels the right way. This ensures that they make the most out of the material.
There are two types of microfiber cloths. A professional cleaning company will choose between disposable and reusable clothes. The fabric is so sturdy that it can last up to more than a hundred washings. But that number can go down if you don’t wash microfiber towels the right way. There’s more to laundering this cloth than tossing them in the washer or scrubbing them by hand. Here’s what you should do:
1. Separate and Shake
You can wash microfiber towels by hand or in the washing machine. Regardless of the method, you’ll need to keep microfiber cloths separate from other clothing items. You should also shake them out over a trash bag or garbage can. This will ensure that the dirt on the fabric won’t become transferred to the other items or them all spinning around in very dirty water.
Some professional cleaners will also segregate the dirtiest microfiber from the others. Putting them all in one cycle means some of the cloths will end up dirtier than when they started out.
2. Deal with Stains
The best time to deal with stains is before you place your cleaning towels in the washer. This is an optional step though. If you’re OK with the microfiber cloth having stains, you can skip this step. Otherwise, use a stain remover on the cloth. You can also add a bit of detergent and rinse out the cloth before adding them to the washer.
3. Pick the Right Detergent
You should decide what type of detergent you’ll use before you launder microfiber towels. Most cleaning up services opt for detergent without additives. This means it doesn’t have any fragrance or fabric softeners. This type of detergent can coat the fibers. If there is fragrance or fabric softener on the cloths they will become less effective at picking up dust when this happens. It’s best if you add a small amount of detergent to your wash load. Some cleaners don’t even use any laundry soap when washing microfiber cloth.
4. Wash and Rinse
Professional cleaning services clean microfiber towels in two ways. They either hand wash them or use the washing machine. It’s a good idea to hand wash microfiber towels by hand if they’re a little dirty. For example, you only used the cloth to wipe down surfaces. The process is very simple. Put the cleaning cloths in a tub of warm water. Swish or scrub them in a gentle manner. You don’t need to add detergent to get rid of the small amount of dirt.
You should clean microfiber towels that have gone dark from dirt in the washing machine. Wash them in warm water with a small amount of detergent. You can use anywhere from one to two teaspoons of detergent. You can also add a tablespoon of white vinegar to get rid of any bad smells lingering on the cloth. Run the washer for half the normal washing cycle. Then let the towels soak for around 20 minutes. Start the cleaning cycle again.
Take the microfiber cloth out as soon as the cycle’s done. Squeeze out excess water. Return to the washer and add more water to rinse. Make sure you rinse out all the suds. Cold or warm water is good. Never use hot water on microfiber cloths.
5. Dry It Away from Other Cloths
Microfiber cloths dry fast. Run the dryer for a few minutes. Use a low heat setting. Some local cleaning services even use a no-heat setting. You can also skip the dryer and let the microfiber towels air dry. Hang them outside under the sun. It will only take an hour or so to dry. It will also smell fresher. You can also air dry it inside the house but make sure the air circulation is good.
There’s a good chance your cleaning services company will separate microfiber towels. They’ll then clean them apart from the other laundry items. It’s because of the cloth’s tendency to pick up dirt. Washing them along with the others will only cause the dirt to attach to the microfiber. You might end up with an even dirtier cloth than when you started. Cleaning them by themselves means the microfiber will be as empty as can be. It will still be able to pick up dirt well when it’s used for cleaning.
